In 1966, the nine founding members of the Lethbridge Community Foundation envisioned their community made stronger through philanthropy – gifts of time and money. They initiated a permanent endowment fund that would provide grants to charitable organizations far into the future. Through their gifts, people from all walks of life have helped to create a legacy that makes a lasting difference in the lives of their friends, neighbours, and communities throughout Southern Alberta.

Donations, small and large, are pooled and invested. Using only the revenue generated by the funds, the Foundation provides grants that support the work of charitable organizations in response to ever-changing community needs. The following areas of need are supported by the Lethbridge Community Foundation historical and educational; social need and health; culture, recreation and environmental; and other purposes which are identified by resolution, at the sole discretion of the Board.

Mission

The Lethbridge Community Foundation is a community-based volunteer organization that exists to encourage philanthropy by providing a method for all, regardless of their means, to make lasting gifts to the community. The Lethbridge Community Foundation receives, creates and manages permanent endowment funds, whether donor directed or otherwise, to meet a broad range of community needs throughout Southern Alberta.

Administration

The Lethbridge Community Foundation is publicly accountable and governed by a volunteer Board of Directors drawn from the communities served. Working with the Board are a small staff of professionals who assist in turning the Foundation’s visions into reality.

Neil Manning, Executive Director, says The Lethbridge Community Foundation continues to flourish. The generosity of the Foundation’s donors has enabled the Foundation to support a range of charitable organizations that help improve the quality of life for residents throughout Southern Alberta. Neil stresses that it is the donors, board members and volunteers who ensure the continuing success of the Foundation. For inquiries regarding the Foundation, please call Neil Manning at (403) 328-5297, or contact him by email.

The Foundation’s funds come from people in all walks of life who decide to give something back to their community. Some make gifts while they are here to enjoy seeing their donations at work; others make a gift through their will or an insurance policy. Each gift, small or large, has its own special meaning. Charlotte Caton is the Foundation’s Development Officer and is available to discuss a variety of donation options best suited to each donor’s interests.
