Inspiring Community Philanthropy
45 Years • 1966 to 2011

This year, the Community Foundation is celebrating its 45th anniversary. Our success would not be possible without the tremendous contributions of the many volunteers who have served on the Board and committees throughout the years.

The Foundation was saddened by the recent loss of Mr. Ralph Thrall Jr., who, like his father, took a leadership role in building our Foundation. Ralph Thrall Sr. helped establish the Foundation and served as its first President from 1964 to 1970. Ralph Thrall Jr. served on the board from 1990 to 1998. We appreciate the commitment of both father and son in their support of our organization, and our community.

Our Community Foundation continues to work to develop a culture of philanthropy in southwestern Alberta - a way of thinking about community needs and a way of working together with individuals, families and organizations to find ways to better meet those needs.

As a centre for philanthropy, the Community Foundation concentrates on investing donations into funds that continue to build and generate more annual income which is used to support charitable activities in our region. We continue to build on the wonderful work of our founders, builders and donors, and are confident that we’ll be here serving southwestern Alberta, forever.

Barbara Cavers - Board President 2011

His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General
Honourary Patron, Community Foundations of Canada

“Volunteerism and philanthropy are two of the most important ways to elevate our communities, collectively and individually. Community foundations work within Canada to strengthen our country and to build trust among multiple stakeholders.”
