Ray Scapinello Supports Youth through his Community Foundation
With the help of his community foundation in Guelph, well-known NHL official and 2008 Hockey Hall of Fame inductee Ray Scapinello has developed a way to help youth grow into responsible, community-minded adults.
Every year Ray organizes the non-profit Ray Scapinello Road Hockey Tournament for as many as 135 teams competing for the "Scampy Cup." The tournament is open to 9 – 14 year old's and is run by volunteers.
The annual non-profit tournament is more than an opportunity for young people to compete and have fun. The money raised is managed by the Ray Scapinello Foundation fund at the
Guelph Community Foundation. This furthers his mission of assisting youth to "become fulfilled individuals and responsible citizens."
Through the Guelph Community Foundation, Mr. Scapinello is able to have the funds distributed as bursaries to deserving students, or as grants to organizations working with youth, especially those who have overcome significant challenges.
In this way, he is creating a personal legacy which will impact his community for generations.
