Presentation: The Power of Story

Something as simple as a well-told story is being re-discovered as the most powerful relationship-building and communications tool you can possess. Why? Humans are hard-wired to receive and retain information couched in “story”. This session will provide the necessary tools and skills needed to implement this new approach immediately.
Trained initially as a journalist, then a banker, Norma stepped into the world of fundraising in the 80's and realized she'd found her calling.  She is an accomplished trainer and has delivered workshops across Canada in fundraising, communications and Narrative Philanthropy to groups as varied as AFP, Canada Parks, Manitoba Contemporary Dancers, Advocis, the Canadian Association of Gift Planners, SaskCulture Inc. and even the RCMP.

She has worked at a number Universities including the University of British Columbia, University of Prince Edward Island, University of Manitoba and most recently, the University of Victoria as well as a number of other non-profit organizations in the social services sector.
Born in Scotland, Norma is also a seasoned storyteller who has performed at festivals, conferences and schools across Canada, the UK and Northern Ireland and is currently the Past President of the Storytellers of Canada.

Presentation 1: The Culture of Philanthropy

Does your board and senior leadership understand the connection between philanthropy and fundraising well enough to tap into their own passion and motivate them to participate in bringing in much-needed philanthropic support? Andrea will explore these compelling questions and their equally powerful answers.
Presentation 2: The Power of Planning

This session explores the planning process, different types of plans and the key elements to include. Most importantly, it addresses how to engage your board and leadership in the fund development process so you are assured of a plan that works.
