Alberta Community Spirit Program

The Community Spirit Program provides a proportional grant to eligible non-profit and registered charities in Alberta that demonstrate they have received eligible cash donations from individual Albertans.  The maximum grant is $25,000 or $50,000 over three years and can be used for operations, programs or capital projects.

Alberta Ecotrust Foundation

Alberta Ecotrust Foundation builds partnerships throughout Alberta between environmental organizations, corporations and others who support environmental action to:

  • build capacity and sustainability in the voluntary sector.
  • promote the environment as the foundation of a healthy community
  • hosts workshops, conferences and webinars
  • fund and support effective grassroots environmental projects:

The Community Grants program (up to $7,500) is designed to support community based projects that typically focus on local opportunities for change through stewardship and action. 

The Major Project grant program (up to $30,000) is designed to support more comprehensive projects that have the potential to result in substantial environmental benefit

Youth Environmental Stewardship Grants (up to $50000) are available to 16 - 29 year olds for a single project undertaken by an individual, or a group of young people.

Alberta Employment and Immigration

Alberta Employment and Immigration (AEI) developed a Workforce Strategy for Alberta's Non-profit and Voluntary Sector.

This strategy guides the department's efforts in supporting the labour force requirements of this sector. AEI has developed a number of local labour market products to support employee attraction and retention for specific non-profit employers.  In addition, AEI has program areas that may be funded through contracts and grants. Alberta Gaming Information for Charitable Groups (GAIN)

GAIN helps volunteers develop a better understanding of the responsibilities and requirements of a gaming licence, and to better assist them to be more accountable to their members and the community at large. The Use of Proceeds session focuses on key information about spending gaming revenue earned from casinos, bingos, raffles, and pull tickets.

Grants coordinated by Recreation and Culture Department:
  • Civic Hosting Grant: provides funds to help Lethbridge organizations bid and/or host conferences, conventions, meetings, cultural events or sport events.
  • Community Event Support Program: assists community non-profit organizations to initiate and develop new events and maintain traditional events, helping with the creation of strong, healthy community events.
  • Community Capital Project Grant: assists not for profit organizations to expand and upgrade community-use facilities, new facility development, construction and capital equipment.
Grants coordinated by Community and Social Development Group:
  • Family and Community Support Services Program Funding: Established to develop, support and fund preventive social services, through not for profit organizations, within the City of Lethbridge.  Programs must intervene at the earliest opportunity, enhance social well-being and be aligned with community needs and City Council priorities.

Legal Resource Centre of Alberta / Charity Central Project

Charity Central [www.charitycentral.ca] is a three year project designed to provide information and print and web-based  resource materials to Registered Charities in Canada, which will assist them to comply with the requirements of the Income Tax Act. Charity Central also offers a toll-free Helpline for Alberta Registered Charities who have questions on receipting, the fundraising guidance, and books and records. The Helpline number is 1-888-587-4438. The project is funded by the Canada Revenue Agency

Lethbridge Community Network

There is a continually demonstrated need for public access to information technology and the Internet in Lethbridge. By forming a strong network that is coordinated and supported by an incorporated not-for-profit society in Lethbridge, the 32 public access sites support the public in accessing essential government, health, education, and employment information. As the distributor for Alberta Computers for Schools, and a provider of technical support for not-for-profit organizations in Southern Alberta, the LCN has significant resources in equipment, software and skill training services that are available to organizations and program in our communities.

Lethbridge Lifelong Learning Association has been the Adult Learning Council of Lethbridge since 1973.  LLLA provides program grant funding for part-time, non-credit learning opportunities for barriered adults. Program funding categories include Foundational Skills [Literacy and ESL], Community Issues and Training for Employment. LLLA also provides Curriculum and Resource Development project funding.
